All good things must end, and too soon it was time to say goodbye to Ireland. Here’s one last picture of Ireland, thanks to Bob Croll for snapping this on the bus while Shana’s California bands guitar player and I did our rendition of Tupelo Honey…
Can’t wait to come back … the Irish blood in me is already deprived, and my taste buds are so unhappy with the Guinness here … 😉
It was a bittersweet departure from Dublin… beyond excited to return to everyone in Key West, and looking forward for everything to come, but it felt as if I was leaving home for an undetermined amount of time…
The flight from Newark to Miami put a huge smile on my sleep-deprived, jet-lagged self. I didn’t even think about what a brilliant idea it was to fly into Miami at sunset.
Jeff picked Mom and I up at the airport and we both fell asleep on the ride back to Key West. Then it was off to the World Inferno Friendship Society concert at the Green Parrot!
Key West NEVER gets big bands coming through – it’s simply too far out there for any kind of crowd. Miami is the closest they’re ever gonna get. So to have a band that I had actually heard of qued up for the night was awesome. I was falling asleep on the way into the show, but the second I heard the violinist playing away, the singer yelling into the mic, and the rest of the band pumping great music out, I was up and ready to go!
All my wonderful friends from Key West started filtering in – I got caught in the middle of embraces from Trevor, Dennis, Dave, Deetz, Yanais, Billy and Andi and danced the night away.
Saturday night Jeff, Trevor and I went into town and helped Zach, Will and Justin drink the keg they had bought…
It was great to see everyone one last time before I had to head out Monday morning for the rest of the journey. I’ve really made some great friends in Key West, something I never expected when I moved down there with Jeff in September. Everyone welcomed me with open arms, played music with me, and made it hard to say goodbye. Will miss you all.
I was able to play tourist on Sunday…
And Jeff and I strolled through town, grabbing a pint before we headed over to Dennis, Billy and Robert’s house.
Jeff and I were just about to leave town when he got a message from Trevor, “future endeavor party tonight?”. These guys are big wrestling fan’s, so they are referencing when getting let go on wrestling, when they wish them all the success in their future endeavor’s.
This message is followed by texts from Billy and Dennis, saying simply “FUTURE ENDEAVOR!”. With a quick phone call Jeff finds out that the pizza shop they all work at has infact closed down. The oven stopped working the previous night, because they had not payed the propane bill in quite some time… and the owner’s decided, NAHHHH we’ll just close it down permanently!
After trips to unemployment and applications for food stamps, it turns out the shop is just under new management now, and they hopefully still all have their jobs. This wasn’t clear that night, though, so we had a fire to celebrate while we burned pizza boxes and drank sweet tea vodka.
The next morning it was an early departure, through the gorgeous US-1.
Goodbye Key West… you’ve been very good to me, and I miss you already.
